#BUSINESSATHLETE PART 5 | TALKING & WALKING SMACK
On the eve of recording the first Business Athlete episode of my podcast featuring my long-time friend - experienced & accomplished Division I College Coach Shimmy Gray-Miller - I'd be remiss if I didn't drop a new edition in this series. BTW - Shimmy's episode will be out Tues, July 25th and it is guaranteed to be a banger.
Back to today's edition #TalkingSmack inspired by one of my GREAT friends today when she referenced with disgust:
👉 "to hear the bullshit, exterior veneer that's hiding a pile of crap"
I couldn't love the poetic words of this Business Athlete more.
She simply cannot and will not tolerate someone talking and walking smack - futilely trying to mask their short comings and insecurity with puffery and utter distractions. In basketball, I played against and with this type of person ... and unfortunately, I've worked for and with this type of person more times than I care to even remember.
Here's the thing: the savvy, authentic Business Athlete sees this weak player for who they are and doesn't fall for the shenanigans - just like my friend doesn't. Others in the game might be willing to get taken to the hole and dunked on by the smack talker/walker but not her - not me - and not YOU, #LEADERS. There's too much at stake that really matters - including the bigger picture instead of the ego of tiny people.
It's up to each one of us Business Athlete Leaders to decide AND act upon what we are going to tolerate, support and perpetuate --- including related to our own behaviors. None of us are perfect and we need to remind ourselves we are pursuing optimal performance. IMO - propping up a Poser who is talking and walking smack isn't even an option in this arena.
