SUNDAY STORIES | BUILD WINGS ON THE WAY DOWN
This morning my husbabe John Griffiths and I rode local trails and you all came to mind about 5 minutes into the ride.
The entrance to the trail has a "drop" feature that I started hitting this Summer but I haven't been on this trail for the last month thanks to the COVID tsunami that hit us. This morning as I was picking up speed riding toward it I suddenly felt scared ... and/but I blew that off, relied on my experience and hit the drop anyway đ đ„ł
A celebration shout later I thought about you all and the magnet I've kept on my refrigerator for the last 20 years that reads:
SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO JUMP AND BUILD YOUR WINGS ON THE WAY DOWN
I find this to be true in mountain biking - in life - and in work.
All the practice, preparation and support doesn't always alleviate the fear. Often when fear finds us we have the opportunity to tap into our experience and instincts and keep going. And, often on the other side of fear we prove ourselves to ourselves and find a new phase of our evolution.
So Leaders - as we "drop" into the week ahead and face things that feel scary - let's remind ourselves and others:
SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO JUMP AND BUILD OUR WINGS ON THE WAY DOWN
