WHAT COMES NEXT?

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

By Amy Scheer, Vice President of Business Operations at Connecticut Sun.

How many of us have been asked this question?

And most of us probably need more than two hands to count the number of times we have been asked this question.

I never know how to answer it and why do I need an answer and why does it matter?

And why do people put so much stock in the answer?

For whatever reason this question has come up a lot lately…

In an interview I was doing to join a particular group it came up…

Internally as we interview candidates for a position – one person seems intent on asking this question to each candidate…

Why do we have to have a path? Why do we have to know what’s next? Why can’t we enjoy right where we are and be proud of where we are. Live, learn and then decide what’s next?

I can honestly say that I have never intentionally decided what’s next…

Some people may think this is crazy…

Others might say good for you…

I have never chased titles, the almighty dollar or that next big thing…

What has found me has been amazing opportunities…

And I know that I have been very very fortunate.

It’s like finding a spouse – when you look really hard – no one is there…

But when you live your life – love it – give your best – that person will find you.

So, I implore people…

Don’t feel so compelled to answer that question…

Enjoy where you are today…

Learn from everyone around you…

Share what you learn with as many people as you can…

Make people smile, laugh and feel valued…

Good things will come your way!

What’s next for me?

No clue – but I do know I love going to work every day with an amazing group of people and I love coming home at night to my wife and 2 cats…

After that – it’s all gravy!!
